Process Writing

Some writing pieces that I worked on this year!

01

Personal Statement

02

Baseline Essay

Respond to one of either the UC application or common application prompt. I choose to write about how engineering inspires me and how I explore that interest inside and outside of the classroom.

In 45 minutes, explain to which degree I agreed with this quote by Dean Llewellen M. K. Boelter: “You must always remember that the products of your mind can be used by other people either for good or for evil, and that you have a responsibility that they be used for good.”

03

Argumentative Essay: AI

04

Why Did the Titanic Sink?: A Research and Analysis Essay

Respond to the following prompt: in your opinion, is artificial intelligence a benefit or a detriment to society? I choose to write about how AI hurts society as the dangers of technological singularity outweigh the benefits.

From an engineering perspective, research the reasons why the Titanic sank. Include an overview of the sinking, design flaws, and physics principles that contributed to the catastrophe.

05

Reverse Engineering Challenge (Poem)

06

Project Hail Mary Essay of the Week: Solar Geoengineering

Choose a poem to reverse engineer. Dissect this poem and emulate its style, tone, symbols, diction, syntax, rhyme scheme, and figurative language. I choose to reverse engineer "Ations" by Shel Silverstein.

Write a 500-800 word persuasive essay taking a position on a topic relating to solar geoengineering. I choose to write about how scientists should be the ones to decide whether we should implement solar geoengineering projects and not those funding the projects.
